East Side Town Watch

The Chief and I have been meeting monthly with residents of the East Side to discuss concerns relating to police presence, drug activity and excessive noise.  As a result, residents have expressed an interest in forming a Town Watch.  We have pledged our assistance in helping this group of residents organize a Town Watch Program.  For more information, contact me at 610-932-2500 or email me at oxfordmayor@zoominternet.net.  I am pleased to announce that an organized Town Watch is now in effect on the East Side of the Borough.

TOWN MEETING NOTES

The second annual Town Meeting was held on March 15, 2007 at the Oxford Presbyterian Church.  Approximately 40 people were in attendance.  The agenda included a report on police activity in 2006 and the Fall Business Owners Police Satisfaction Survey Results. The Chief presented a report on criminal activity in the Borough over the last year.   Council persons Randy Teel and Ron Hershey discussed the proposed closure of the Broad Street Bridge and proposed one-way traffic pattern on Western Terrace.  No decisions on either topic were made. Questions from the audience were addressed by the Mayor, Chief Slauch, Randy Teel and Ron Hershey. Future Town Meetings will be held.

PUBLIC SAFETY ISSUES

CURFEWS
The Oxford Borough Council at their Regular Meeting on June 18, 2007 passed an ordinance that changes curfew hours. CLICK HERE FOR FULL TEXT

 CROSSWALKS
I encourage the motoring public to yield to pedestrians in crossing walks particularly on Third Street..  When in doubt as to whether or not a pedestrian is going to cross the street, please stop.  Once  a pedestrian is in the crosswalk motorists must stop, violators will be ticketed.

 SKATEBOARDING
While we realize that our youth need to have a place to skateboard, we are also concerned about the safety of skateboarders and the public.  Skateboarding is not permitted in the Central Business District.  We ask for your cooperation.  To view the Ordinance which was ammended on March 17, 2008,  and see where skateboarding is permitted, click this link to see the SKATEBOARD ORDINANCE
